About Me
I am a science writer and science communicator. I am passionate about improving how we communicate science, especially to a non-scientific audience. I believe that knowledge is empowering. Most people do not read scientific journals, and will not understand the jargon in scientific papers. We can only benefit from the information we can access and understand.
My focus, and my passion, is communicating genetic and genomic health information to non-genomic scientists, the science-interested public, and the general public. The field of genomics is rapidly growing, but that information often does not reach past the genomics community. My goal is to increase awareness of the genomic medicine that is already being used in practice, as well the new genomic research and technology that could influence the future of medicine. I take this complex genomic information and translate it into clear, concise health concepts, allowing people to understand how genomics may impact their lives now and in the future.
I currently work as a Genomics Communication Fellow at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) where I support the development of educational materials, press/media resources, and targeted messaging. From July 2024 to April 2025 I was the inaugural Genomics Communications Fellow at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), where I supported the NHGRI Office of Communications in developing educational and media products such as fact sheets and feature stories. Prior to the fellowship, I worked for 5 years as a Program Implementation Specialist at the University of Pittsburgh, where I focused on improving access to mental and behavioral healthcare in rural counties. As a graduate student, I conducted community outreach and engagement with underserved communities for the All of Us Pennsylvania Research Program, as well as created a fact sheet on pharmacogenomics while interning at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Office of Genomics and Precision Public Health.
I received my M.P.H. in Public Health Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh and my B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego.
